Who can run a collection agency in Denmark?
A company that wants to work with debt collection in Denmark must first be approved by the Rigspolitiet. This only applies if the collection agency is collecting debt for a second party. A company that collects its own debt does not need any specific license to do so.
Danish collection agency – which one to choose?
If you are looking for a collection agency that is a member of a large European network, Købmandstandens Inkasso Service, member of ECA, European Collectors Association, is a good choice. KIS has been in business since 1870, making it the oldest collection agency in Denmark.
Debt collection in Denmark must follow pair collection practices
Debt collection bureaus that collect debt in Denmark must undertake to follow fair collection practices. This means the collector must not expose anyone with a debt or an unpaid bill to unreasonable pressure or damage. It also means that the collection agency must send a summons to pay to the debtor, including all information necessary about the debt and a 10 day time limit. When collecting debt in Denmark, the collection agency must only contact the debtor if he, or she, doesn’t pay within the time limit.
What are Danish collection agencies allowed to do?
Debt collecting in Denmark differs from for example debt collection in Sweden or Debt collection in Norway in that the Danish collectors can make personal visits at a debtor’s home. The debt collection agency first has to inform the debtor in a letter before the visit.
